Your folder has been carefully packaged to prevent damage in shipment.
Inspect all shipments as soon as they are received. Note any signs of damage on
the freight bill and notify the claims department of the carrier within 15 days.
All claims for damage or loss is the responsibility of the receiver, INSPECT

This machine is designed and safeguarded for one-person operation. Never
operate the machine with more than one person.
|
|
Safety of this machine is the responsibility of the user and operator. Use
good judgment and common sense when working with and around this machine.
Read and understand all instructions thoroughly before using this machine. If
questions still remain, call your Authorized InfoSeal Product Dealer. Failure to
understand operating instructions may result in personal injury. Only trained
and authorized persons should operate this machine.
DO NOT ALTER SAFETY GUARDS OR DEVICES, they are for your
protection and should not be altered or removed.
DISCONNECT POWER before cleaning, lubricating, servicing
or making adjustments not requiring power. Flip the power switch to the position
and remove the plug, see Power lockout Procedure below.
Have your electrician make sure the machine is properly grounded.
Have your electrician check for sufficient power to operate the machine
properly.
Observe all caution plates mounted on this machine.
Keep foreign objects off table and away from rollers.
BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL when handling and changing the
scoring blades. Severe lacerations could result from careless handling
procedures.
Keep the floor around the folder free of trim, debris, oil and grease.
If the folder sounds or operates unusually, turn it off and consult the
manual. If the problem cannot be corrected, have it checked by a qualified
person.
DO NOT CLEAN ROLLERS WITH THE MACHINE RUNNING! Disconnect
the power and use the handwheel to turn the rollers.
DO NOT OPERATE WITH ANY GUARDS REMOVED! Replace all guards
after adjusting, lubricating or servicing the machine.
Never connect or disconnect electrical power with wet hands.
WARNING: POWER LOCKOUT PROCEDURE
For maximum safety and to prevent unauthorized use, turn the power switch to
the off position and pull the plug. Disconnect the power whenever adjusting,
lubricating or making repairs to the machine.
DESCRIPTION
FUNCTION
FOLDER SEALER
InfoSeal folder/sealer is designed to moisten, fold, and seal a variety of
forms squarely and securely.
TRANSPORT DECK
Joins folder/sealer to Burster. Aligns and feeds forms from Burster into
folder/sealer..
AIR FEED TABLE
Attaches to folder/sealer for use with cut-sheet forms. Aligns and feeds
forms from stacked sheets into folder.
INSERTER
Inserts additional messages into form as form is folded.
BURSTER
Separates multifold continuous forms into single forms. Can remove tractor
feed edges and slit forms (see Burster manual).
THEORY OF OPERATION
The form is moistened by the InfoSeal's water system and fed into rollers,
which push the form into fold plates. The fold plates stop the form at a
predetermined point. As the form bends, it is pushed through another set of
rollers and the fold is creased.
The form is then fed onto the stacker where the sealing roller applies
pressure to the moist glue strips to seal the form.
MAINTENANCE
GENERAL
This section includes electrical and mechanical descriptions,
preventive maintenance, technical adjustments and trouble shooting.
SAFETY WARNING
Always be sure that the machine is unplugged before any attempt
is made to perform any maintenance covered in this section.
WARNING: DISCONNECT PROCEDURE: NEVER PULL THE CORD. To
disconnect the plug, Cord fatigue could lead to shorts resulting in fire or
personal injury from shock. Always grasp plug body to disconnect power cord.
WARNING: SHOCK HAZARD! NEVER CUT THE GROUND LUG from a
three-prong plug to fit a two-prong socket. Possible shock could cause personal
injury or death. Hire a qualified electrician to provide a power source that
meets electrical requirements and all local electrical codes.
CLEANING
Take a few minutes at the end of each day to wipe off accumulations of paper
dust. Cover your machine when not in use. These practices will keep your machine
clean an in tip-top operating condition.
ROLLERS
Keep fold rollers clean. Most folding problems are the result of
dust and toner accumulation on the fold rollers. Although designed to minimize
accumulations, over a period of time, ink and dust buildup will prevent the
rollers from gripping the stock evenly. Rollers should be cleaned on a regular
basis to maintain optimum folding performance.
Disconnect the power, remove the fold plates and clean rollers
with blanket wash (not type wash) or a commercial product designed for the type
of rollers your machine is equipped with. Turn the rollers with the handwheel
(never attempt to clean rollers with the machine running) .
Check rollers periodically for wear. Worn rollers will be
evident by increased setup times, increased spoilage, inaccurate folding, and
inability to control the sheet. If one or more of these conditions are noted,
contact your authorized InfoSeal Product dealer to inquire about inspection
and/or possible roller replacement.
VACUUM PUMP-COMPRESSOR
Filters-Because the printing process produces large amounts of paper dust as
well as offset powder, regular inspection and cleaning of pump filters is an
important part of folder maintenance. Filters should be removed and blown out at
least weekly, more if you are running large, long run jobs. Filters should be
washed periodically with a cleaning solvent and dried thoroughly before
replacement.
If filters become difficult to clean or deteriorate, they should be replaced
immediately. Replace any filters, which become contaminated with oil or grease.
PUMP VANES-To prevent dirt and dust buildup from causing the pump vanes
to stick or break, the pump should be flushed periodically. Use a non-flammable
safety solvent like Lock tight Safety Solvent or equivalent. Remove the hoses,
disconnect the filters and pour several teaspoons of solvent through the intake
into a rag held over the opposite side.
PUMP LUBRICATION- Your folder uses an oil-less pump and motor. Do not
attempt to lubricate the pump or motor.
GENERAL INSPECTION
All moving parts are subject to wear. Periodic inspection will avoid machine
failure in the middle of critical job runs. Inspection should cover the
following list of items: -
HOSES- Inspect for cracks and leaks. Replace as necessary.
DRIVE BELTS- All belts stretch and wear. Check and replace as necessary.
Keep replacement parts on hand.
REGISTER TAPES and Stacker Belts- Check for signs of wear, alignment, and
proper tension. Schedule replacement before they fail on a critical job.
RUBBER WHEELS- Pullout tires, scoring wheels
DC MOTOR BRUSHES- Should be inspected approximately every three months.
If worn to ¼" (7mm) or less, replace the brushes.
STACKER WHEELS should be inspected to make sure they are in good
condition to insure consistent delivery of folded pieces, consistent stacking.
Keep extra score wheels (2608 only) on hand and make sure stacker wheels rotate
freely.
LUBRICATION
To insure long life, lubricate your machine weekly or after every 8 hours of
use. The best time to lubricate your machine is early in the week before
start-up. This allows the lubricants to work into the parts as the machine is
operated rather than simply running off. Oil and grease locations are listed on
page 9.
For oil locations, use a NON-Detergent, #30 weight oil or approved
equivalent. Be careful not to over-fill. Oil left on rollers will cause them to
swell. Which will interfere with folder performance. For grease locations use
Amoco Amalith #2 or approved equivalent. Wipe off any excess.

NOTE: The Vacuum-pump units is of an oil-less type. Do no attempt to
lubricate the pump or motors.

TEST, CHANGES & SETTINGS
PROPER OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS OF INSERTING DEVICES
|
The inserting devices must run properly for reliable feeding.
You can check this by using a three- (3) step test:
1. Tip the hoppers up to 60 degrees and hit the "test" button. One
insert will shoot out. (Two, if both hoppers are active).
Repeat test by hitting "test" button rapidly (3 times per second)
Any hesitation on the part of the hoppers is a FAILURE. Adjust hoppers and
retest refer to page 69 separation wheel. Note: Actual operation runs these
hoppers at two inserts per second.
2. Run the InfoSeal and use the inserter. Set InfoSeal for its maximum
inserting speed of 7200/hour or two sets of inserter per second.
This is CRITICAL. Its reads about ¼ speed on the speed knob. You may check
this setting by watching the inserts leave the hoppers and come to rest in the
staging area.
They must come to a full stop in the staging area before feeding. If they don’t,
turn speed down.
3. A third and final check of the inserting system is to watch it operate.
Concentrate on the staging area.
Watch the inserts arrive at the bottom of the staging area. Both inserts
arrive at the same time. Note that the inserts then leave the staging area
immediately after you see the form appears in the upper fold plate. This
operation is consistent. These may be hesitation on the vacuum infeed deck, but
there is never a lag between the appearance of the form in the upper fold plate
and the firing of the clutch in the lower staging area.
SETTING-HOPPERS:
Stripper Plate – front edge centered on
orange – O-ring.
Separation Wheels – middle (brown) wheel
touches insert stock. Lower two (aluminum) V pulleys with the orange- O-ring
must blear by .010-.130.
This adjustment is a screw on the cam arm.
You must let inserts crawl up and rest each time you adjust this screw.
Staging area – The orange wheels touch the
orange belts. The belts area deflected such that the back side of the belt is in
the same plane as the front side of the staging chute.
The staging chutes should always be set as wide as possible with two
cautions. First, that they not hit the upper (visible) shafts and; that they not
hit the segmented (lower) shafts which feed the inserts.
STAGING AREA
All four sets of rollers mate firmly. One is spring loaded. Push them apart.
They should spring back. If not, chutes are too wide.

INSERT CONTROLS
The insert control switch and arm on the left in the picture below is for
timing drop into the staging area.
The insert control switch and arm on the right is to control the carriage.
The carriage holds the packet of inserts.
This arm in the picture below is connected to the same shaft as the timing
arm in the picture above only it is in the center of the shaft. The insert drops
into the staging area when the arm is released away from the roller by the
insert document.
SPECIFICATIONS FOR MODEL 2608 TWO STATION INSERTER
The information below should be considered the "operating"
specifications for the first generation of the Model 2608 Two-Station Inserter
option for the High Performance InfoSeal Folder/Sealer.
Insert Total Thickness (.004"-.020"): Any combination of paper
stocks 20#-60# including envelopes that fall between the total thickness
specifications should be considered as " in specifications". The
maximum document thickness though the fold rolls should not exceed .040";
this is including the carrier form.
Insert sizes: This specification is dependent on the size of the carrier
form and fold type. Always keep in mind that the insert will be
"inserted" into the first fold of the form. In a typical "C"
fold configuration (this is the fold closest to the bottom of the form). The
insert must be able to fit within the confines of the second panel (middle) of
the form. With at least a clearance from glued edges and second fold of a
½" on both sides and top of the insert.

Through-Put Speed: Speeds up to 8000 forms per hour have been achieved.
Most applications can be processed at speeds between 7200-7800 forms per hour
(based on 11" form length).
Note: Forms length, fold style and insert size/ thickness also effect run
rates.
SENSOR TEST
The following are the specified values for the 2608 Inserter’s sensor
adjustments.
In the electrical box, locate Molex plug/connections on the left side.
TCI is the connection for the set of sensors in the insert staging area. Trim
pot’s below these connections are for adjusting the sensitivity of these
sensors. Pot marked R-20 adjusting TIC/staging area sensors.
TC2 is for sensor located on 31-buckle plate, pot R-21 adjusts sensor.
To adjust these units do as follows:
On either TC1 or TC2, counting from the top connect multi meter set at VDC
20 volt range to pins 2 and 4…(2) is Ground.
Without paper in sensor area meter should read 11.8vdc with paper in
sensors meter should read approx. .06vdc.
Trip point for (point where clutch’s engage/disengage is at 6vdc).

careless handling procedures.

Your InfoSeal includes a rubber score wheel, a blade holder and a grooved
perf. Collar as standard equipment.
Installation of accessory blade and collar: Is simplified by the removable
scoring assembly. The first fold plate need not be removed take the assembly
out, but makes it more convenient. Loosen the setscrew in the sliding collar.
Simply slide scoring shaft to the right, bring the opposite end out of the
folder frame and remove the shaft assembly. Then install score blade and
reinstall.
NOTE: Before tightening blade holder screws, mount the holder with the
blade loosely attached onto the scoring shaft. Now tighten the holder screws.
This ensures the blade is concentric with the scoring shaft making for easier
installation and even score.

SQUARING
PROCEDURE OF CUT SHEET AIR TABLE-INFOSEAL
Remove Roller Cover.
Set Side guides so that form is in running position. (Centered with the drive
rollers, and aligned with roller groves).
Using a machinist square, place the short side of the square against the
exposed drive roller. The other side of the square should be placed on the
outside (non-paper side) of the right paper guide.
Make adjustments as necessary by loosening the lock screws of the side guide
slightly tapping the guide into position so that it fits snugly to the square
(adjust the end of the guide rail closest to drive rollers first).
To adjust the other side, simply use a cut sheet form. Place it in the hopper
and adjust the left side paper guide to achieve the tightest possible fit yet
allowing the form to feed freely.
