Overview of Envelope Patches

Introduction
When designing an InfoSeal form, there are four general specifications relating to envelope patches to consider. They are:

  • Envelope Size
  • Paper Weight
  • Envelope Patch Adhesives
  • Depths

Standard Envelope Sizes
The standard envelope depths for 11" depth forms are 3 3/7" or 4".
The standard envelope depth for 14" depth forms is 3-1/2".
The standard envelope depth for 17" depth forms is 4-1/4".
Exceptions/Alternatives: Refer to Product Development/Manufacturing.

Standard Paper Weight
In order to improve the appearance of the form and to provide an easier opening envelope, the standard paper weight for envelope patches is 20# RB.

Exceptions/Alternatives: Clients with non-impact printers may prefer to use either 20# MICR/OCR or 24# MICR/OCR to improve imaging.

Envelope Patch Adhesives
Refer to the previous for a full discussion of Envelope Patch Adhesives.

Folder/Sealer Considerations
Ideally, the patched envelope should be placed in the bottom panel (opposite of the three glue tabs) of a C-fold document. The opening of the reply envelope should be at the bottom of the form to improve processing through the folder/sealer.

Exception: The reply envelope patch can be positioned with the opening toward the top of the document. However, this position is not recommended on forms processed through the Mid Range Folder/Sealer (model 2612) do to the potential of the reply envelope opening catching on the window patch of the next form.

Envelope Patch Depths
